When I started in the hobby of keeping fishes, some 25 years ago, things were a lot different. Water was water from the tap and plants, well anything that you liked from the nearby lake or pond would work, and if you could not find anything else, plastic ones did just fine.
Filters were simple internal ones or the undergravel kind, and there had to be an airstone in the tank. The word fish tank was non existent, they were called aquariums.
Bubble eyes, Lion heads, Telescope eyes etc, were cool and you could not be the one who didn’t own one. Even the local pond fishes or the live edible varieties sold in the fish markets used to take refuge in your tanks….
Days have changed now. The quaint little hobby of fishkeeping has moved on to a full fledged business, a competition of sorts going on in the social media circles. Every Tom claims to be a Guru in aquatics and has a channel on Youtube.
Enough was enough and before the deep pocketed Purists came into the picture and scrambled your dreams of a beautiful yet inexpensive planted tank, here is my effort to make this journey as easy for you as possible.
I will take you through a journey of setting up a planted tank, one step at a time and definitely keeping in mind the cost associated with each of the factors involved in the setup and maintenance process.
You can treat this book as an all inclusive Information booklet that you can keep handy during the whole process, and discard it after you’ve read it once! Yes I am correct, you can discard this as I will make you a Guru in the subject. Not a Guru to give lectures in Universities but the one who creates a well balanced Planted tank and is easily able to maintain it for decades without any hiccoughs.

I disagree with the negative comments here. For the price this is an excellent summary for beginners who want to get going. I personally would not use the suggestions about creating your own light fixture or substrate. It tells you the basic light intensity to get. The beginning plants are lovely and available. The instructions for co2 and nutrients can be followed by non technical types and without shopping all over town. With 30 minutes of reading i am ready to get started. Fyi, grammatical issues are due to second language and do not prevent comprehension
This book is poorly written and poorly formatted. Many of the pages do not display.
